One of my most favorite restaurants for pizza! And I come specially for the atmosphere , very lively and peppy atmosphere! Food is great … and has been. But the optional tip is completely unsatisfactory and unsuitable. As an American living in Portugal, I can assure you that tipping is not part of the Portuguese culture. I would conjecture that this is being done so that Avillez can get more money or underpay his workers. Not having to tip for everything and the fact that food servers are paid a full wage is one of the great things about Portugal and this attempt to “Americanize” it should be resisited — or they should at least give free water if they want to be American about it! I’d be very curious if the Portuguese customers are given that “option” (we were with US friends and speaking English). The tip is optional, but the whole dialogue was very uncomfortable and, despite the always good food am tempted not to return as long as that policy is in place. Americano sobre isso! Ficaria muito curioso se fosse dada essa “opção” aos clientes portugueses (estávamos com amigos norte-americanos e falávamos inglês). A gorjeta é opcional, mas todo o diálogo foi muito incômodo e, apesar da comida sempre boa, fico tentado a não voltar enquanto essa política estiver em vigor.

Fantastic venue, great cocktails downstairs in the bar. The Pizzeria however was disappointing, thin based pizza that went cold very quickly, poor service, cold red wine and the desert took forever to arrive and when it did one arrived first and the other ten minutes later. Not real pizza. Place is filled with plastic plants. Staff wear headsets. Elevator music. Expensive. Felt like being in a surreal dream about a restaurant rather than an actual restaurant. Absolutely stunning venue. The pizza itself was nice, but not amazing. We had nicer pizza in Lisbon during our stay, and this was on the more expensive side. Feels like they've bulked the price up because it has a Michelin Starred Chefs name attached to the venue. This is also evident in the service. Absolutely incredible service, however, a bit too attentive (coming over every 2-3 minutes to check on us) for a Pizzeria. Felt like a training ground for his other Michelin rated restaurants. However, still a lovely place. Would not come back for pizza here, but would definitely come to try the other dining experiences in the venue - like the Tapas Taberna, the Patio and the Minibar. I stumbled upon this place as I was exploring. I arrived when they were just opening and could easily get a seat . In busier times you may want to consider a reservation. The staff are very friendly. They have a large selection of pizza and pasta options. As well as a variety of desserts. I got the Roasted Pineapple with lemon and basil sorbet. It was great. This is absolutely the worst “pizza” I have ever had, beating the previous worst in Venice that had hot dogs for sausage! There is no pizza dough, just a cheap, flavorless tortilla with poor quality ingredients including rubbery luncheon meat instead of ham and barely any cheese. The herb topping (oregano maybe) left a terrible aftertaste in my mouth. Just horrible, don’t waste your money at this joke of a “pizzaria”.
